This privacy policy applies to the SoftART SOP Generator Recorder Chrome extension (“the extension”), published by SoftART. The extension helps users record browser workflows and generate Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) documents containing step descriptions and screenshots.
This page describes what data the extension handles, how it is used, how it is stored, and whether it is shared. It applies specifically to the extension and is separate from the general SoftART website privacy policy.
Data the extension handles
While the user has recording enabled, the extension may capture:
- Page URLs visited during the recording session
- Click and scroll actions on the page
- Typed input values entered into form fields, used to describe the step (for example, “Type Acme Inc. into the Company field”)
- Screenshots of the active browser tab
- Step titles, descriptions, URLs, annotations, and images that the user manually adds, edits, or draws in the preview editor
- Saved SOPs stored in the local library
- User settings, including an optional company name, website, accent color, and an optional logo image
Sensitive fields
- Passwords are never captured. For password fields the extension records only a generic action (for example, “Type a password into the Password field”) and the secret value never leaves the page.
- The extension provides privacy controls to blur/redact password fields (on by default), email fields, or all input fields directly in the screenshot before it is captured. When “mask all inputs” is enabled, typed values are also replaced with a masked placeholder.
How data is stored
All recorded workflow data, saved SOPs, and settings are stored locally in the user’s browser using Chrome extension storage (chrome.storage.local). The extension does not transmit recorded workflow data, screenshots, typed values, browsing activity, or generated SOP content to SoftART or to any external server. All screenshot capture, annotation, redaction, and document generation happens entirely on the user’s device.
How data is used
Captured data is used only to display the recording preview and to generate SOP documents (PDF, DOCX, HTML, or Markdown) at the user’s request. Generated documents are saved locally by the user’s own browser download.
Data sharing
SoftART SOP Generator Recorder does not sell, rent, or share user data with third parties. The extension does not use recorded data for advertising, tracking, profiling, creditworthiness, lending, or analytics of any kind.
User control
- Users can start and stop recording at any time.
- Users can clear the current recording session from the extension popup.
- Users can delete any saved SOP from the library at any time.
- Uninstalling the extension removes all locally stored data.
External links
The extension can optionally open SoftART’s website in a new tab after a document is exported. This behavior is off by default and is entirely under the user’s control in Settings. Opening that website is separate from the extension’s local recording functionality.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this same URL and the effective date above will be revised.
